In a 1995 interview with Robert Storr, Felix Gonzalez-Torres noted:  "I don't want to make art just for people who can read Frederic Jameson sitting upright in a Mackintosh chair. I want to make art for people who watch The Golden Girls and sit in a big brown La-Z-Boy chair." 

A 90-hour performance piece, Thank You For Being A Friend… is a lazy-man’s act of endurance and indulgence. Friends, acquaintances, and strangers were invited to grab a spot on the La-Z-Boy and join in binge-watching one of America’s most groundbreaking sitcoms. What began as an investigation into television and friendship, ended in despair, chemical imbalance and a general sense of contempt for The Golden Girls.
